As per tradition, the Newport Folk Festival is announcing its 2019 acts one-by-one. Today, the famed Rhode Island event has added Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, who will play on Friday, July 26.
In the announcement, Newport Folk Festival also specified that organizers “made a donation on behalf of Phil Lesh to support Unbroken Chain Foundation…to bring music education programs to communities where great need exists.”
This will mark Lesh’s first appearance at Newport. (It’s worth noting, however, that Grateful Dead bandmate Bob Weir did take the Newport stage once, in 1995 with Rob Wasserman.)
Previously announced performers for 2019 include Jeff Tweedy and Todd Snider, among others.
2019’s Newport Folk Festival will stretch from July 26-28 and it is completely sold out.

January 10, 2019 at 11:10 pmThanks Phil for bringing the Terrapin family to the Newport family. The Dead songbook is one of the great Folk songbooks and deserves to be heard at this fest.
Are you kind?
