Blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr. will release his third full-length album This Land on March 1.
Today, the musician shared the video for the LP’s title track. According to a press release, the “powerful and controversial video delves in on Clark’s experience growing up in the south.”
Clark recently sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss his new, politically-charged approach to his music. “I haven’t been through shit compared to my people,” he told the publication. “But if I can do anything with my opportunity, and say thank you to Dr. Martin Luther King for sacrificing your life so that I can have a microphone … that’s the least I can do.”
The “This Land” video was shot in rural Texas, near Clark’s home and his tour in support of the new album kicks off on March 9.

January 12, 2019 at 10:22 pmGary Clark has every right to his opinion and choice of lyrics. I know of his great guitar skills but as a lyricist this really poor. This is a classless way of getting your point across. Many artists have taken a stand against things or politians that they disagree with in an intellgent manner. Think Springsteen’s Born in the USA. This is thugish trash and a slap in the face of MLK…

January 11, 2019 at 8:56 pmUnfortunately being tolerant got us in this fucking mess. Hopefully this new approach from liberals to fight back against trump and his evil regime continues. And for ME I’m typing on a iphone. Not looking for any grammer awards. D of KC. Just calling it like i see it. Anyone who calls gary clark jr weak…probably not the brightest

January 11, 2019 at 1:14 pmD of KC put on your big boy pants… remember, sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you. And, while you’re at it, learn the difference between tolerant and a response to negativity (though, I’d agree that calling Muddy an idiot for expressing his opinion wasn’t necessary) or do you believe that hippies are tolerant to, oh, say, defending enemies of the state while bullying fellow countrymen?
Oh, and name-calling/hate doesn’t belong to any particular party. Of course, based on your comments, it appears you are simply regurgitating a very stale line the right thinks makes sense. As for Ted Further, you might want to use the correct version of “you’re” when calling someone an idiot! But, to the point, Gary Clark is a great talent on guitar and vocals.

January 11, 2019 at 12:53 pmThis is powerful and to the point! More artists need to be speaking up against oppression. Turn it up!

January 11, 2019 at 12:34 pmyou may not like this song but he gets attention because he is a phenomenally gifted guitarist. See him live and pick your jaw up off the ground.
