Phish returned to the stage last evening at New York’s Madison Square Garden for their 57th show at the venue (the band first performed at MSG on 12/30/94). The quartet opened the night by launching into “We Are Come to Outlive Our Brains,” the second-ever performance of the song that Phish debuted during their Kasvot Växt Halloween set. The group later revisited Kasvot Växt material with “The Final Hurrah” midway through set two. “The Final Hurrah” followed a segued stretch that began with a extended version of “Set Your Soul Free” which led into the paired “Swept Away” > “Steep.” Phish had last played these two songs during their Baker’s Dozen run at the venue on 8/1/17. Speaking of MSG, the group’s performance of “If I Could” during the initial set, was the band’s first at “The World’s Most Famous Arena.” Other highlights from the show included an animated take on “Axilla,” a dark, exploratory sequence during “Ghost,” and the interplay between Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell as the band built towards the crescendo of “Maze.” Anastasio also lent some holiday flair to the proceedings by teasing “The Little Drummer Boy” at the close of “Bathtub Gin.”

Phish returns to Madison Square Garden tonight for the second of four shows at the venue.
