Bob Weir and Wolf Bros continued their tour in Nashville Monday night, welcoming three very special guests at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.
Following a diverse set one, opening with upbeat highlights like “Hell in a Bucket” and “Mama Tried,” and closing with the classic pairing of “Lost Sailor”> “Saint of Circumstance,” the trio added John Oates and Buddy Miller into the fold, for a bluesy take on Mississippi John Hurt’s “My Creole Belle.”
Oates stayed onstage for “Friend of the Devil,” and he was joined by country staple Margo Price who supplied twangy vocals on “Me and Bobby McGee.”
Afterwards, Weir & Wolf Bros went back to their trio format for a couple of tunes (“Easy Answers,” “Eyes of the World”), but clearly Miller couldn’t stay away, as he jumped back onstage for Hank Williams’ “You Win Again,” and (following a “New Speedway Boogie”) a pensive version of “Days Between.”
To end the second half, Weir & Wolf Bros ran through a double dose of politically conscious and inevitably hopeful tunes, namely “Throwing Stones” and “Touch of Grey.”
And once again acknowledging the impending midterm elections, the band encored with “U.S. Blues.”
