After a valiant fight against cancer, Paradigm Talent Agency’s Chip Hooper passed on March 5, 2016.
Known for his work with Phish and Dave Matthews Band, the famed agent was revered across the music industry. As Patrick Jordan wrote in Hooper’s Relix obituary, “Chip’s passions for music, art, friends and, especially, his family were incredibly contagious to anyone he came in contact with, and he was beloved for it.”
The Billboard Live Music Summit & Awards has now revealed The Chip Hooper Award, to be bestowed upon “a young rising star working as an executive in artist representation, management or concert promotion.”
After Hooper’s passing, Trey Anastasio recalled the impact Hooper had on him as both a colleague and a friend.
“It’s impossible to overstate the effect that Chip had on Phish’s journey, and subsequently on the journeys of every Phish fan,” Anastasio said. “He was there every single step of the way. He felt more like a brother than a booking agent. We are really going to miss him.”
Similarly, Dave Matthews recalled how Hooper “could shine a light on the best things about a person.”
“He was one of the most generous people I have ever known,” Matthews added. “I think he made the world a better place.”
The Billboard Live Music Summit & Awards is scheduled for November 13-14 at The Montage Beverly Hills.
