The inaugural Waterloo Festival kicked off on Friday with a full evening of music spread over two stages at Carson Creek Ranch outside Austin, TX, and The String Cheese Incident highlighted the new gathering with the first of the three sets they will play throughout the weekend.

Opening day at Waterloo also featured music from BIG Something, Perpetual Groove, Oteil & Friends (comprised of Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti, John Kadlecik, Scott Metzger, Jay Lane and Alfreda Gerald), Austin Groove Project, Magic Beans, MONTU and Mamafesta, plus a late-night show from TAUK.

SCI offered a dynamic, nine-song set along with a two-song encore, and the band even fit in a nod to their surroundings with “Texas Town,” marking their first performance of the tune since the summer of 2013 (that instance also came in Austin at The Backyard).

Below, see String Cheese’s full setlist as it appears in our Box Scores section, and see more photos and videos from day one of Waterloo here.

The festivities from Carson Creek Ranch continue today for day two, with another set of SCI, plus music from Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (the band’s first-ever Texas show), The Motet, Orgone, Marco Benevento, Everyone Orchestra, Tea Leaf Green, Los Coast, Amoramora and Big Wy’s Brass Band.
