The Ides of March will serve as the release date for the latest studio album from Bernie Worrell. On Standards the keyboard player is joined by a line-up that includes Smokey Hormel (guitar), Melvin Gibbs (bass), JT Lewis (drums) and Darryl Dixon (saxophone). This collective has interpreted a range of familiar songs, including “Take The A Train,” “Take Five,” “You’re My Thrill” and “Watermelon Man.” Although best known for his work with Parliament-Funkadelic and later the Talking Heads, Worrell studied both jazz and classical music at New England Conservatory of Music. Standards will be available on CD and vinyl via Scufflin’ Records.
