Soulive made its way to Boston for two shows at the close of 2010. The group performed two sets each night, blending classic originals such as “Turn It Out” and “Uncle Junior” with more recent compositions and a variety of covers. The Thursday show saw the band expand considerably with numerous guests taking the stage with the trio. Alecia Chakour (vocals), Chris Lofton (bass), Brian Thomas (trombone), Eric Bloom (trumpet), Louis Cato (drums) and Ryan Zoidis (sax) all made appearances on the 30th. In addition, Nigel Hall added vocals to both nights at the Paradise (his contributions to “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” on Friday were stirring). Soulive’s Eric Krasno opened the performance on the 31st with a DJ set and the band later devoted the early part of the night to the Beatles material on its Rubber Soulive release. The evening eventually concluded with a cover of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” that saw Hall return to the stage and contribute lead vocals while the crowd joined in as well for an exhilarating interpretation that photographer Nick Fitanides (see image above) characterized as “epic.”

Much of the Soulive crew is currently sailing the Atlantic on board Jam Cruise where Lettuce is set to appear.
