Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe celebrated Halloween at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, and as previously confirmed, the band’s performance doubled as a tribute to Michael Jackson. Denson took the stage wearing a Jackson 5-like afro wig and Jackson’s trademark single white glove. The saxophonist paid tribute to many of Jackson’s classic tunes throughout the night, including “Thriller,” “Billie Jean” and “Smooth Criminal.” The gig was Denson’s second New York City appearance this fall: in September Denson and Tiny Universe headlined Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl. During the set, Tiny Universe bassist Ron Johnson—who is sitting out the band’s fall tour while on the road with Brett Dennen—joined in for a number of songs throughout the night. Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will perform at Richmond, VA’s Capital Ale House this evening.
