Next Tuesday, January 13, is the official release date for the latest Derek Trucks Band record, Already Free. Later this month the group will hit the high seas to participate on Blues Cruise, which will feature performances by the DTB proper as well as the expanded Soul Stew Revival collective, which also features Susan Tedeschi on vocals, drummer Duane Trucks and a three-piece horn section: Mace Hibbard (saxophone), Kevin Hyde (trombone) and Paul Garrett (trumpet).
Starting February 6, the Derek Trucks Band will begin a cross-country tour that will open in Portland, Maine and eventually carry the band out to California in April (with European dates rumored to follow). The tour will consist of two legs, with Trucks spending much of March at the Beacon Theatre with the Allman Brothers Band. Speaking of the ABB, in the current issue of Relix magazine, Trucks not only discusses his current release but also places odds that Dickey Betts will return to the stage with the Allman Brothers during its 40th Anniversary run at ‘even money or better.’
