J.J. Grey & MOFRO spent the weekend in New South Wales, Australia, surfing and performing at the annual East Coast Blues & Roots Festival. As the festivals moniker suggests, the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival featured a number of blues n roots musicians, including Buddy Guy, the Black Crowes, Wilco, John Fogerty, John Butler Trio, G. Love and Special Sauce, Xavier Rudd, Mavis Staples and Maceo Parker, among many others. While at the festival, Grey also made an appearance with singer/songwriter Will Conner, an Australian-based musician who actually cites the MOFRO leader as an influence on his MySpace page. In addition, original MOFRO saxophonist Nathan Shepherd, who appears on 2001s Blackwater and currently lives Down Under, has been performing with his longtime friends throughout their Aussie tour. MOFRO will appear at South Oak, FLs Wanee festival on April 11, while Conner will support Jack Johnson at Melbourne, Australias Sidney Myer Music Bowel tomorrow.
