Readers eagerly awaiting a side-project featuring members the often intertwined bands the Benevento/Russo Duo, the Slip and Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey are in luck. On October 19, JFJO bassist Reed Mathis and Slip drummer Andrew Barr will perform with Marco Benevento at New Yorks Joes Pub in support of the keybaordists solo debut, Live at Tonic. Both Mathis and Andrew Barrs brother Brad appear on the live album, which features material culled from Beneventos run of shows at Tonic last fall. The keyboardist also recently wrapped up a seven night run of west coast piano bars with Mathis and drummer Matt Chamberlain in support of the project. Since Chamberlains obligations to Tori Amos will prevent him from playing Joes Pub in October, Benevento enlisted the help of his old friend Andrew Barr for the gig. The Duo will open for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band on August 30 in Buffalo, NY.
