While the internets cyber lens remained fixed on New Orleans for JazzFest and Indio, CA, for Stagecoach, Memphis, TN, hosted its own annual gathering: the Beale Street Music Festival. This years lineup veered towards the eclectic, boasting appearances by everyone from the Counting Crows to Godsmack to Iggy & The Stooges to Three 6 Mafia. A number of site regulars also offered well received appearances, including the Allman Brothers Band, Govt Mule, Umphreys McGee, Steely Dan, and the North Mississippi Allstars. During the Allman Brothers Bands headlining spot Govt Mule keyboardist Danny Louis emerged for both The Bands Night They Drove Old Dixie Down and Woman Across The River. Govt Mule also nodded to its surroundings, teasing Johnny Cashs Folsom Prison Blues during a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Effigy. The Allman Brothers Band will remain off the road until its summer tour kicks off in late July.
