This evening at Austin’s Zilker Park, a new quartet will premiere prior to its upcoming appearances at the High Sierra Music Festival. Papa Mali and Robb Kidd (current drummer in the Papa Mail Trio) will be joined by New Orleans keyboardist Henry Butler and the Dirty Dozen Jazz Band’s Kirk Joseph as The Rhythm Council. In addition to the Austin date and two shows at High Sierra, the Council will appear at the Portland Waterfront Festival on July 4, with additional dates likely in the offing as well.
