With the latest edition of The Biz appearing at the site, we are reminded that last week moe. drummer Vinnie Amico, made an appearance with writer Allen Ostroy at Skidmore College. Ostroy was on hand to deliver a music business workshop (some of which he relates here each month). After a brief Q&A session where students asked a variety of questions for Amico on topics ranging from life on the road to the groups relationship with his old label Sony 550, Amico joined in on the rest of the workshop. The group covered such topics as how musicians, managers, agents, and promoters all work together to produce a show, how the recording industry works, what a tour manager does, and how a band develops. While this information can be daunting, Amico emphasized in conclusion, ‘Allen and I don’t mean to discourage you with all the challenges you face, its a wonderful and rewarding career.’ The drummer will continue the live performance component of that career on April 20 at the Jammys.
