With the opening notes of Hot Lanta,’ the Allman Brothers Band charged into its annual Beacon Theatre run. The first set also included versions of Revival, Stand Back and a set-closing take on The Weight. The group later returned to the stage with Hubert Sumlin who contributed vocals and guitar to three songs: Smokestack Lightning, Shake For Me and Sitting On Top Of The World before heading over to his gig at Mexicali Blues. As for the ABB, it will return to the Beacon this evening for the second of its fourteen New York City shows, with additional guest musicians and some new material said to loom on the horizon.
