We are happy to report that New Orleans legend Clarence Gatemouth Brown survived Katrina, though, unfortunately, most of his belongings did not. Gatemouth Brown was evacuated to Texas and will end up residing in Austin…Last Wednesday Del McCoury turned his free Louisville, KY concert into a benefit for the Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The McCourys were already scheduled to play the free show on the banks of the Ohio River as part of WFPK’s Wednesday Night concert series and to help local record retailer Ear X Tacy celebrate its 20th anniversary. The Red Cross set up collection boxes and Ear X Tacy donated 100% of its 20th Anniversary t-shirts sale revenue to the cause…RadioFreeInternet, in conjunction with KefferMediaServices and the Church of Universal Love and Music, is collecting clothing, shoes, personal hygiene items, towels, washcloths, bottled water and other donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The groups efforts will culminate at Church of Universal Love and Musics Boykin Ball this weekend…String Cheese Incident and its management wing Madison House have sent four trucks to bring food and donations to aid Conscious Alliances on food efforts in Houston. The Conscious Alliance is currently in Texas assisting America’s Second Harvest Food Bank…Dave Matthews Band, Neil Young, the Neville Brothers, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones are among the acts scheduled to appear on this Saturdays ReAct Now: Music & Relief benefit. Scheduled to air simultaneously on MTV, VH1, CMT, MTV2, mtvU and VH1 Classic, the Katrina relief benefit will combine live and taped performances with an opportunity for viewers to call in their donations. Taped in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, and Atlanta the multi-genre event will air Saturday at 8pm EST…John Mayer performed alongside Eric Clapton this weekend for CNNs How You Can Help…Captain Soularcat will prelude its four week tour with an 8 AM free show at the Woodlawn Shopping Center in Dunwoody, GA Wednesday after which it will head to Raleigh for an evening set at The Pour House. Portions of its Dunwoody performance will air on WAGA Fox 5’s ‘Good Day Atlanta’ show tomorrow morning as part of its ongoing Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort…Relix Magazine has donated over $2,200 to the Red Cross Katrina relief efforts through a special subscriptions deal. $12 from every subscription will go to benefit the American Red Cross’ 2005 Hurricane Relief fund.
