Saxophonists Sam Kininger and Cochemea Gastelum performed with Mike Clark and the Roots All*Stars last night at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City. Kininger (Soulive) and Gastelum (Robert Walters 20th Congress) took the stage towards the end of the show for Chameleon. The bands line-up includes drummer Clark (Headhunters), trombonist Fred Wesley (James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic), guitarist Fuzz (Deep Banana Blackout) and saxophonist John Ellis (Charlie Hunter Quartet).
It was great playing with Mike Clark, says Fuzz. Hes a really intense drummer. I describe it like a rollercoaster because it seems like at any given time [hes] gonna jab or take a big drop. You just have to be prepared for any sudden change in direction and I felt like I had to really focus and lock in.
The group plays tomorrow at the House of Blues in Cambridge, MA.
