9/24/2005, Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA

Foreshadowing Fare Thee Well, Trey joins Bob, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Bruce Hornsby, Jeff Chimenti, Donna Jean and other members of the Dead family for a night of GD classics. Billed as Comes a Time: A Jerry Garcia Tribute, the night celebrates the Dead’s 40th anniversary and honors the 10th anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s passing. Phil Lesh, who is feuding in the press with the members of the Dead over the band’s digital footprint, is noticeably absent.

12/02/2005, Warfield Theatre, San Francisco, CA

Trey brings out both Rhythm Devils, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, to play “Iko Iko,” “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad,” “Eyes of the World” and “Casey Jones” with his post-Phish solo band. The show solidifies his working relationship with Kreutzmann. The next night, Trey nods to another early Phish influence by inviting out Talking Heads’ Jerry Harrison.

12/16-17/2005, Asheville, NC

Trey, Mike Gordon and Kreutzmann put together their extremely short-lived SerialPod side-project for Warren Haynes Christmas Jam events at The Orange Peel and Asheville Civic Center. The shows offer a mix of Dead staples, classic covers and “Chalk Dust Torture.” The project lasts only these two shows but sets the stage for Trey and Mike’s joint summer tour in 2006.

2/5/2006, Majesty of the Seas, Nassau, The Bahamas

Trey, Bobby and Dave Matthews—singer/guitarists in three of the most iconic jambands of all time—share the stage for the first and only time. RatDog are docked in Nassau for shows aboard Dave Matthews’ Caribbean Cruise Getaway, while Trey is in The Bahamas to perform with Dave Matthews & Friends during the cruise’s main island stop. When their land set gets rained out, Dave Matthews & Friends move their show onto a cruise ship and bring out Bobby for “Iko Iko.”

2/12/2006, Beacon Theatre, New York, NY

Trey makes a surprise appearance with Phil Lesh & Friends during their run at the Beacon Theatre. As a treat for fans who braved a massive snowstorm to make it to the venue, he sits in for Phil’s entire two-set performance. In addition to Dead material, Trey helps the band through Ryan Adams’ then current number “What Sin Replaces Love” and Phish’s “Wolfman’s Brother.” Hot chocolate is also served.

6/17/2006, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Manchester, TN

Trey and Mike surprise fans by debuting their G.R.A.B. collaboration with the Benevento-Russo Duo during Bonnaroo’s annual SuperJam. (Trey was at Bonnaroo for a What Stage set with Oysterhead and had already left to open for Tom Petty in Maryland Heights, MO but flies back for the late-night jam.) Festival headliner Phil Lesh sits in on “Casey Jones” and “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad.”

Summer 2006, North American Sheds

Phil & Friends co-headline a summer tour with G.R.A.B. The groups switch off headlining spots with Trey regularly joining Phil & Friends during their second set. Phil bonds with Joe Russo and later recruits him for Furthur.

10/28 & 29/2006, Las Vegas, NV

Billed as Phil & Trey, the Grateful Dead and Phish worlds officially merge during these shows at Sam Boyd Stadium and the Orleans Arena at Vegoose. Mike Gordon, who is at Vegoose performing with The Rhythm Devils, also sits in on banjo. With the indie boom in full swing, the Dead and Phish scenes consolidate into one entity in the eyes of the mainstream media.

10/20/2007, Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls, NY

Trey makes one of only two public appearances during his Drug Court stint in Saratoga Springs, NY when he joins Phil & Friends for their entire show at this historic, nearby venue. Phil, whose shows often take on both musical and lyrical themes, crafts a setlist that explores addiction, the judicial system and redemption. When given the key to Glens Falls, Phil also “pardons Trey Anastasio.”

8/2/2009, Red Rocks, Morrison, CO

Kreutzmann makes his first appearance with Phish during their 2009 reunion tour. A day after Jerry’s birthday, he sits in on a second drum kit for “Undermind,” “Drums,” “Seven Below,” “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” “Waves” and “Character Zero.” The drummer is in the area with his band 7 Walkers.

9/7/2012, The Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY

Trey and Bob Weir help reopen the Capitol Theatre, and celebrate Shapiro’s 40th birthday, during this multi-act HeadCount benefit. They join Warren Haynes, Grace Potter, Rolling Stones saxophonist Bobby Keys and The Roots for “Dancing in the Street,” “The Thrill is Gone” and “Whipping Post.”

9/7/2013, Lockn’ Festival, Arrington, VA

Trey Anastasio Band fill in for Neil Young & Crazy Horse at the first Lockn’ Festival after Frank “Poncho” Sampedro is injured. Trey shares the stage with both Phil and Bobby for the first time when he sits in with Furthur during their complete recreation of the iconic Workingman’s Dead album. He also sticks around for a selection of bonus material.

5/1/2015, Terrapin Crossroads, San Rafael, CA

While rehearsing with Bobby for Fare Thee Well, Trey and Phil join Colonel & The Mermaids for “Bertha” and “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad.” The group features Phil’s son Grahame and a number of the club’s house musicians.

6/27/2015, Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA

Fare Thee Well officially kicks off. Trey joins the core four for an evening of material drawn exclusively from the Grateful Dead’s 1960s infancy.
