SAM COHEN (YELLOWBIRDS)

What will you remember most about 2011?

It’s been a really exciting year creatively. The Yellowbirds record came out, I made several videos for YBs and others, and worked on several albums. This is also the first year I’ve ever had a proper studio of my own to work from. It was the busiest and best year to date for me as a musician/artist.

What album or albums received the most play?

Twangy Guitar, Silky String by Duane Eddy, Theremin “Premiere Artiste” by Clara Rockmore. It was a laid back instrumental sort of year.

What was your favorite show or tour in 2011?

We got to play with The Sea and Cake in Boston about a month ago. They were incredible.

What emerging band should readers watch out for in 2012?

Higgins and Quilt. They both have great new albums out.

What’s your New Year’s resolution for 2012?

Learn some new tricks, make some new sounds, refine some techniques… give better hugs, listen more intently, immerse myself in every activity… buy a raincoat.
