The inaugural Hangout Beach, Music & Arts Festival took place in Gulf Shores, Alabama from May 14-16 and if promoter Shaul Zislin has his way there will be many more to come. Earlier this week Zislin asked city officials for the permit that would allow the event to return for five additional years. “I’m here today to plead with you guys to allow us to do this again and entrench it as an annual event that people put on their calendars, an event that is associated with this area,” Zislin told the Council, “I think it’s going to be absolutely amazing what we can achieve in our second year.” The Council has yet to issue an official response, although the City’s Mayor indicates that is all for more Hangouts to come. The Council is expected to make a ruling next week. The year’s fest included performances by Trey Anastasio and TAB, Zac Brown Band, John Legend, Ben Harper and Relentless7, The Black Crowes, Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, Gov’t Mule, The Flaming Lips, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Matisyahu, Keller Williams, Girl Talk and Guster.
