Over the weekend, Boston-bred jamband Neighbor brought their sound north to Burlington, Vt.’s iconic institution Nectar’s. Over the three evenings, the band explored several debuts and welcomed sit-ins from Dopapod’s Chuck Jones, Cool Cool Cool’s Craig Brodhead and Ryan Montbleau.

Their stay at Nectar’s began on Jan. 26 and started with a four-song jam comprised of “Words On A Line” > “The Unknown” > “Point of No Return” > “Love Like Stone.” They also shared several teases during their performance, including “Cucamonga Carl” during the first set’s closer “Carmelita” and Dick Dale’s “Misirlou” during “Granddaddy Said” within the second set. Other highlights from the evening were the live debut of their song “UFO” and an encore of “Wait Another Day.”

The second evening of their stay at Nectar’s, Jan. 27, was also lush with teases and highlights none so as exciting as Dopapod’s Jones joining on bass for their opening set closer “Move Along Little Jimmy” which also included teases of “Lonely Rider” and “Into the Sun” along with a jam of “Shitstorm.” The second set of the evening opened with a four-song jam of “Chickens” > “Eleven O’clock” > “Ulsa” > “Lonely Rider.” From there, they shared the debut of Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London,” along during which Brodhead joined on guitar. The evening was concluded with an encore of Phish’s “Bouncing Around The Room.”

The third and final night of their short but very sweet residency in Burlington once again saw Neighbor throw out several debuts and teases of the songs that connected and shaped them as a musical family. After several favorites with teases of iconic songs like Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird,” they closed the first set with the debuted their live cover of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” which was delivered as an instrumental in the arrangement of Joe Cocker. They also teased several Phish songs throughout the evening, including “Tweezer,” “Mike’s Song,” and “Bathtub Gin.” During the second set, they rounded the performance out with a debut of Sly and the Family Stone’s “If You Want Me To Stay” with Ryan Montbleau on vocals and a penultimate debut of The Who’s “Squeeze Box.”

For one last, loving nod to their musical influences, during their encore, while they played “Mighty Apple Tree,” they slipped in some teases of Phish’s classic 1996 song “Talk.”
