Last night, Nov. 3, Greensky Bluegrass performed at The Showbox at Market in Seattle. During their stay at the deco-style venue, the “not quite” bluegrass quintet welcomed renowned saxophonist Skerik, who is a resident of the Emerald City.

The ensemble, comprised of Dave Bruzza, Paul Hoffman, Michael Bont, Anders Beck and Mike Devol, opened the show with a nod to another resident of Seattle, Jimi Hendrix, with a cover of “Crosstown Traffic.” They then moved into the traditional “Hit Parade of Love” before playing their first original of the evening, “Forget Everything.” Greensky Bluegrass then flowed from “Worry 4 You” > “Don’t Lie.” Next came “Prom Night,” followed by “Get Sad” from their 2022 LP Stress Dreams. Next, they tapped into 2019’s All For Money with “Courage 4 The Road” and 2016’s “Past My Prime.”

They gave a quick warning to fans with “Take Cover” before Skerik came out for a rendition of their 2010 song “I’d Probably Kill You.” He stayed on for two more songs, “One Way Out” and “What You Need,” displaying impressive skill on the sax and adding ample brass to their tricked-out strings. Greensky Bluegrass rounded the show out with “Murder of Crows,” which was followed by the penultimate “Catch Me A Jesus” before closing with “Leap Year.” After a short break and much applause from the several hundreds of fans in the crowd, they returned to the stage to encore with “Small Axe.”
