April 18 marks Record Store Day, during which record shops will be flooded with limited vinyl releases and patrons eager to get their hands on the exclusive wax. The Grateful Dead, Paul McCartney, New Riders of the Purple Sage and many more will release limited edition vinyl on Record Store Day this year.

The Grateful Dead will release a vinyl version of their May 9, 1977 show in Buffalo. This show occurred the day after the legendary Cornell ’77 show. The 5-LP set will be an edition of 7700.

Meanwhile, Record Store Day will also see the release of The Very Best of Jerry Garcia, which will come in the form of a 5-LP box set. The first two LPs will span 1972-1892 with cuts from all five of Garcia’s studio releases (Garcia, Compliments, Reflections, Cats Under the Stars and Run for the Roses). The remaining LPs will feature “more than 76 minutes of rare live gems from a range of acoustic and electric performances between 1973 and 1990” (quote via press release).

April 18 will also see the release of a 50th Anniversary Special Edition of Paul McCartney’s solo debut, McCartney. “Originally released in April 1970, one month before The Beatles’ swansong Let It Be, McCartney saw Paul getting back to basics,” read a press release. “Writing every song and playing every instrument (with backing vocals
from Linda McCartney), the eponymous album represented a creative rebirth, bursting with new ideas, experiments, playfulness and freedom.”

Other Record Store Day releases include New Riders of the Purple Sage’s Field Trip, which features live takes from the band’s Aug. 27, 1972 performance (during which they shared the bill with the Grateful Dead; the Dead’s show that day was released as Sunshine Daydream in 2013).

Additionally, Record Store Day will see the release of America’s Heritage II: Demos/Alternate Takes 1971-1976, which is a follow-up to their 2017 release Heritage: Home Recordings/Demos 1970-1973.
