The forthcoming John Scofield release Thats What I Say is a tribute to the music of Ray Charles. Throughout the disc, Sco and a range of artists perform material written by Charles as well as a number of songs long-associated with the soul pioneer. While many of tracks on Thats What I Say are instrumentals, some guest vocalists do join in, for instance on a six minute version of the Charles original Whatd I Say which features turns on vocals by Warren Haynes, Mavis Staples, John Mayer, Aaron Neville and Dr. John. Another highlight is Night Time in the Right Time with Haynes singing and adding guitar. The album, which is set for a June release, closes out with Scofield on solo guitar for Georgia on My Mind.’
