Robert Moog passed away on Sunday at his North Carolina home following a bout with brain cancer. In 1954 Moog created the famous synthesizer that bears his name and he continued explorations and innovations in this field throughout the course of his life. Earlier this year his story became the subject of the documentary film Moog, which contained testimonials from such artists as Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, DJ Spooky, Bernie Worrell, Pamelia Kurstin, Money Mark and Mixmaster Mike. New York Citys BB Kings Blues Club has hosted Moogfests over the years that have featured appearances by Emerson, Wakeman, Worrell, Edgar Winter, Will Calhoun, Stanley Jordan, Steve Molitz and numerous other artists. His family has established the Bob Moog Foundation in his memory to promote the advancement of electronic music.
