During Govt Mule extended Deep End outing, the group invited a number of longtime friends on the road, including the Black Crowes duo of Audley Freed an Andy Hess. In time, Hess proved to be an invaluable part of the newly reformed Mule and joined as the group on a fulltime basis. Over the past two nights, Freed revisited his old friends—-and former bandmate—-when Govt Mule played Nashville, TNs Ryman Auditorium Wednesday and Birmingham , ALs Alabama Theater Thursday. Freed joined in on a number of songs including Sugaree , Oh Well, and Jesus Just Left Chicago. On Wednesday, longtime Haynes collaborator, and onetime Allman Brother, Jack Pearson also sat in on 32-20 Blues and That’s What Love Will Make You Do.
Meanwhile, in New York, Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson joined the North Mississippi Allstars at the Bowery Ballroom for Never In All My Days. The Black Crowes also recently tapped the Allstars as an opening act for their New Years performance at Madison Square Garden.
