The Arc Angels will mark its grand return with a performance at Austins Auditorium Shores during SXSW this Friday, March 20. The all-star group, which features guitarists Charlie Sexton and Doyle Bramhall II as well as former Double Trouble drummer Chris Layton, reunited briefly last year after parting ways in 1994. The group recently spent time in the studio and will hit the road in May for a tour with Eric Clapton. A live CD/DVD is also expected this spring with a U.S. summer tour to follow.
Charlie and I started to write together again and decided that we should get the band back together, Bramhall said in a statement. The chemistry that we all have together is one entity and it’s something very real. It’s fun.
The group first came together in Austin after the death of longtime friend Stevie Ray Vaughan and released its self-titled debut in 1992 on Geffen Records. The three musicians have kept busy since that time: Bramhall has recorded with Roger Waters, Eric Clapton and Derek Trucks, Sexton toured with Bob Dylan and Storyville has backed everyone from Buddy Guy to John Mayer and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Fridays performance at Auditorium Shores is free and open to the public. No SXSW wristband is required.
