On Thursday, March 7, Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band took over Chicago’s Thalia Hall, offering two sets and an unexpected cover of the city’s own Wilco for the encore.
The band kicked off the show with a string of Grateful Dead favorites, including “China Cat Sunflower,” “Mr. Charlie,” “Looks Like Rain,” “Throwing Stones” and “Jack Straw.” From there, the band dug into a stand-alone “Black Peter” and closed the first half with a three-part “Help On The Way”> “Slipknot!”> “Casey Jones” jam.
“Slipknot!” made a return to open set two, and bled into a nice exploration of “Cassidy” which contained a full segue in and out of Jerry Garcia Band favorite “Reuben & Cerise.” The improvisation kept coming with a deep “Dark Star”> “Mountain Song”> “Dark Star,” but the set closed on a lighter note with a trio of “Scarlet Begonias,” “Eyes Of The World” and, finally, a combo of “Terrapin Station” and “Uncle John’s Band.”
After a quick applause break, the Terrapin Family Band encored with “Not Fade Away” before former drummer and current guitarist Alex Koford took on lead vocals for Wilco’s Being There track “Misunderstood.” (The Terrapin Family Band has recently made a habit of covering unexpected tunes. In Seattle, they surprised fans by covering Nirvana’s “Lithium.”)

March 13, 2019 at 10:42 amwonder if Phil ( probably Jill) demanded a refund on his donation to Christine Blasey Ford legal fund.
Lying piece of shit she was.
No surprises he would cover Wilco.

March 11, 2019 at 11:44 amThat’s right Dick-shit-ball, The Eleven, Passenger, Pride of Cucamonga, and Childhood’s End are horrid tunes.
Unbroken Chain and Box of Rain are quite clearly crappy and juvenile ‘attempts’ at song-writing.

March 10, 2019 at 7:46 pmPhil Lesh is so hip covering Wilco and Nirvana. Too bad he can’t write a song to save his life.

March 10, 2019 at 1:20 pmLove Phil and his family band but not sure why they would show support for Wilco. Wilco is aweful and Jeff tweedy is a self righteous, liberal, cock sucking, piece of dog shit.
