You’ll have a blue(sy) Chanukah with Jeremiah Lockwood.

Following the path blazed by 1968’s The New Possibility: John Fahey’s Guitar Soli Christmas Record, 2021’s A Great Miracle: Jeremiah Lockwood’s Guitar Soli Chanukah Record brings the sound of the season to stereos with one guitar, no vocals and a whole lot of spirit.

Whether westward leaning on “Ritual;” looking to the East with “Al Hanisim Izhar Cohen;” or exploring the American South on “Little Dreydl,” Lockwood casts these eight traditional melodies – one for each night of the Festival of Lights – in a shroud of blues-based cool, often sounding like a duo, rather than a single, and singular, guitar picker.

It’s holiday music suitable for year-’round listening – Jewish sounds for everyone.

The LP ends in less than a half-hour, when “Chanukah Oy Chanukah” brings the celebration to a close. Like the festival it commemorates, the only downside of A Great Miracle is that it must end.
