On Saturday, Tedeschi Trucks Band concluded their Beacon Theatre residency in New York City. The final performance brought the husband-and-wife duo and their gifted backing band into double-digit status after they launched the run on Tuesday, March 10, and implemented weekly engagements built around the release of their sixth studio LP, Future Soul. The finale pieced together the contingencies of their residency by offering a front-to-back reading of their latest record, and a roll call of guests, including past participants, Warren Haynes, Cyndi Lauper, and the founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, Jaimoe, who granted a supersized sit-in.

Last night’s concert featured a complete run-through of Future Soul, delineating the album’s importance as a cornerstone of the residency. Ultimately, all 11 movements led to the frame’s final feature: a take on “I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel To Be Free).” Before performing the cover, the group brought out the only surviving member of The Allman Brothers Band, Derek Trucks’ one-time bandmate, Jaimoe, who provided the backbeat while helping to close the first set.

Ultimately, Jaimoe’s arrival during set one’s final song nodded at his prominent status going forward. The percussionist returned for the entirety of set two, a massive sampling of covers that began with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s politically charged “Ohio.” I Am The Moon feature, “Soul Sweet Song,” disrupted the pattern as did “Made Up Mind,” but were welcomed inclusions ahead of Sly and The Family Stone’s coupling “You Can Make It If You Try” > “Everyday People.”

The night’s three drum kit setup lent itself during “Isaac & Jaimoe & Kebb.” The band positioned the original number “Let Me Get By” before piling covers: The Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup,” Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk,” Roland Kirk’s “Volunteered Slavery,” and Ben E. King’s “It Ain’t Fair.” Before delivering more music, the band welcomed Haynes, who previously sat in last weekend, for a full-on Allman Brothers revival: “Dreams” and “Whipping Post.”

Extending the night one step further, the band and their guests, Jaimoe and Haynes, returned to the stage along with one other unlikely surprise, Cyndi Lauper, who also appeared during weekend two, reclaiming a slot and adding to the night’s fitting finale, a take on The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends.”

Following their 10-night residency and Big Apple activities, the group will take a brief break before resuming their touring in support of Future Soul on April 14 in Dallas. For more tour dates and ticketing information, visit tedeschitrucksband.com/tour
