Tom Hamilton has joined SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead family. The guitarist, known for his roles in Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, American Babies, Ghost Light, and Bill Kreutzmann’s Billy & the Kids project, will host a monthly radio show, Goin’ Down the Road with Tom Hamilton. The first episode will air on Monday, December 15, with a special guest, Chris Tomson (Vampire Weekend, Taper’s Choice).
Commenting on the new role, Hamilton says, “I’m so excited to bring a new show to SiriusXM’s GD channel, celebrating the Dead and our scene through music and conversation.” According to the program description, Hamilton’s show will include hand-selected songs from the Dead and Jerry Garcia, in addition to new projects that continue to honor the band’s esteemed songbook and associated covers.
After the first episode airs next week, Hamilton will continue his monthly program in January with another esteemed guest with a Grateful Dead association, Bobby Weir’s choice collaborator, bassist, sage producer, and leader of The Pan-Detroit Ensemble, Don Was. With guests in tow, the show invites its guests to share in stories, song picks, and band insight–spread across the airwaves.
To follow, on Jan. 23, Hamilton will release his first album under his own name, titled I’m Your Vampire (AWAL/Relix), co-produced by Hamilton and Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman/Wednesday). Read the initial LP coverage here.
