In 2024, Lotus have undergone a metamorphosis. 25 years into a storied career on the cutting edge of jamtronica, the quartet broke new ground with the mesmerizing uptempo house grooves of How to Dream in Color, its first offering since the tragic passing of longtime drummer Chuck Morris in 2023. This infectious energy has translated to the stage, where fans across the Northeast and Mountain states had the unique opportunity to watch the band see clear to its future and enact its forecasts in real-time on the How to Dream in Color Tour.

Today, Nov. 11, Lotus offers listeners everywhere a chance to experience this jam alchemy with Live at Altitude, a new live collection set to release on Thursday, Nov. 21. Recorded during the outfit’s Mountains of Music set at Vail, Colo.’s Gerald R. Ford Amphitheatre, the album features nine tracks from across the band’s discography, bridging classics like “Nematode,” “Spiritualize” and “Umbilical Moonrise” into more recent jam vehicles like “Eats the Light,” “Catacombs” and “Opus,” with a well-honed cover of Tame Impala’s “Elephant” to close out the set. Though featuring largely recognizable entries, the show is distinguished by the pioneering instincts of the quartet, who recombine their instrumental and electronic impulses in pursuit of a new sound.

“While we release all our live recordings on Nugs.net, we wanted to put out a live show on all streaming platforms to give everyone access to a picture of current live Lotus,” bassist Jesse Miller shares in a statement. “This show seemed like a great fit at 90 minutes. Across the 8 songs the set is an overview of 20 years of Lotus music while showcasing the group improvisation, melodic-rock and synthesizer-driven dance music the band is known for. We intend to do more releases of live Lotus music in addition to the releases we regularly make available on nugs, Bandcamp and YouTube.”

Live at Altitude is available to pre-save now. After the album release, Lotus will return to Philadelphia for a hometown New Year’s Eve celebration on Dec. 30 and 31, then embark on its second How to Dream in Color Tour, plotting 17 stops across the country from Jan. 17 to Feb. 15.
