Last night, Tuesday, Oct. 29, folk-rock favorites Dawes appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, in tangent with promo efforts associated with the release of their latest album/ ninth studio set, the aptly titled Oh Brother (Dead Ringers via Secretly Canadian). During the televised appearance, the brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith performed “House Parties,” a selection from their 2024 contribution.
Before the album was officially delivered, “House Parties” was the set’s official introduction, taking the lead single status in mid-July. “[It’s] a song about how true cultural experiences aren’t in the tourist traps but within human connections among specific communities. It’s a goofy lyric but the sentiment is not. We can all relate to feeling truly alive at a dive bar or a stranger’s home, getting access into a universe we didn’t even know existed…Whether across the planet or just one town over,” Taylor said.
The group’s Kimmel performance struck a familiar chord, considering their energized approach and affinity for tapping into a feeling of sentimentalism through satirical lyrics–all the while maintaining their distinctive ability to conjure a scene and emulate a desired feeling. During last night’s run-through, Taylor took on a particular twang vocally while backing instrumentals, which also coursed a similar hometown tinge.
