Jason Isbell attended the Democratic National Convention last night, where he lent his talents on stage to support Kamala Harris’ bid for the White House. During night one of the political gatherings at the United Center in Chicago, Isbell performed the title track from the 2015 Grammy-award-winning LP, Something More Than Free

Isbell’s political stance is nothing new. In 2021, the musician and his 400 Unit band released a charity album comprised of covers by Peach State favorites as an homage to Joe Biden’s massive win in the state of Georgia during the 2020 presidential election.

While Isbell took his stage time as an opportunity to perform an ode to finding meaning in hard work, other musical guests that took part in last night’s event used their song choices to evoke the essence of the night. In addition to Isbell, country artist Mickey Guyton played her 2021 number, “All American.”

Another seasoned music veteran was also expected to take the stage, but James Taylor was bumped from the evening’s itinerary due to the tight timeline. Previously, Harris has pulled artist intrigue. Just last week, Yo La Tengo offered up their services to perform fundraiser events. Before that, Bon Iver caught up with Harris while visiting his home state of Wisconsin, where he covered the 1862 patriotic anthem, “Battle Cry of Freedom.”
