Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig, the revolutionary guitarist and founding member of The Disco Biscuits, has plotted a special collaborative performance with Elephantproof’s Ben Atkind at Woodstock, N.Y.’s Beasville Theater. As part of the iconic venue’s grand re-opening series this summer, the jam figureheads will connect onstage on Aug. 3 for an evening of electroacoustic improvisation and innovation. Saturday’s staging arrives as a continuation of Gutwillig’s trailblazing Baba G side project, which shows the vaunted instrumentalist demonstrating his proficiency as a producer and DJ, and follows up on a successful duo debut at Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Future City Lounge in June.

“I’m excited to collaborate with Ben again. Our Brooklyn show was very well received, and I think we’ll deliver an even stronger performance now that we’ve got a show under our belts,” Gutwillig attests in a release. In their second match-up, the artists will further the format laid out earlier in the summer, with Atkind–formerly of Goose–adding live drumming to Baba G’s seamless integration of house, trance, techno and more from behind the boards. Gutwillig will also periodically return to his axe and lay down some serious guitar mastery, at times through unprecedented new approaches to standards from The Disco Biscuits.

“We believe the combination of Jon Barber and Ben Atkind will create a great musical moment for these early days of the Bearsville Theater,” adds Peter Shapiro, the storied promoter and live music mogul leading Dayglo Presents’ revitalization of the Woodstock institution. Gutwillig and Atkind have already made a splash at other high-profile Dayglo venues like The Capitol Theatre and Brooklyn Bowls with their respective bands, and the new entry in the production company’s roster provides the perfect venue for the artists’ first marks in a bold new chapter.

Baba G and Atkind’s show at the Bearsville Theater will begin with an opener performance from the Capital Region’s own SM INK. Fans can find tickets and more information on the engagement at bearsvilletheater.com.
