Today, June 7, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss released a powerful cover of the classic country blues tune “When The Levee Breaks.” In addition to the duo’s gripping harmonies, the 2024 Plant and Krauss iteration features members of their live band, including JD McPherson (guitar), Jay Bellerose (drums), Dennis Crouch (bass), Stuart Duncan (strings) and Viktor Krauss (multi-instrumentalist), who have supported the pair in their frequent performances of this classic track on tour over the last few years. “When The Levee Breaks” marks the first single for Plant and Krauss since the release of their 2021 LP Raise The Roof; it ushers in a new era for the dynamic partnership and their ensemble.
The drop also aligns with the duo’s extensive co-headline tour with McPherson this summer. Over the next few months, Plant and Krauss are set to travel from coast to coast on the Can’t Let Go Tour, which spans Virginia to Montana. While on the West Coast, Plant and Krauss will also venture to Canada on Aug. 13 and 14 for performances at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre before heading back to the U.S. for two evenings in Seattle, a performance in Oregon, four nights in California, and a show in Arizona. As their tour comes to a close, the band is set to perform back-to-back shows at The Santa Fe Opera on Aug. 28 and 29, as well as two additional Colorado evenings with gigs in Colorado Springs and Vail.
Moreover, the pair is also set for a number of festival performances alongside their co-headline dates. In late June and early July, Plant and Krauss are set to join Willie Nelson & Family, Bob Dylan and Celisse for the Outlaw Music Festival, starting June 21 with stops in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Other festival appearances for Plant and Krauss this summer also include Highland Park, Ill.’s Ravinia Festival on June 12, and Canada’s Aug. 11 affair, Edmonton Folk Music Festival.
