Pure Imagination Festival has revealed the artist lineup for its 2024 showing. This marks the female-founded and curated festival’s third presentation, returning on May 17 and 18 to Prescott, Ariz.’s scenic Granite Dells at Watson Lake in Prescott National Forest. The Flaming Lips, Sylvan Esso and Tanya Tucker are among the many impressive acts set to perform on the banks of the idyllic reservoir in this historical heart of the old West.
This year’s festival will depart from its typical single-day format by opening with a kick-off concert on Friday, May 17. The inaugural concert will be led by reggae-fusion outfit Michael Franti and Spearhead and feature support from Prescott’s own folk-rock collective Ponderosa Grove, fronted by festival organizer Candace Devine. Saturday, May 18, boasts four headliner performances by Grammy-nominated indie-pop duo Sylvan Esso, country legend Tucker, off-beat hip-hop luminaries the Pharcyde and the Flaming Lips, which will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots with a run through the pathbreaking 2004 concept album. Other artists billed on the lineup include Danielle Ponder, The National Parks, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, Galactagogues and more, with further acts still to be announced as the festival approaches.
Pure Imagination Festival prides itself on presenting an environmentally-focused and family-friendly event, granting free entry to children under 10 accompanied by a ticketed adult. Off-stage, the festival’s offerings include hiking trails around the picturesque festival grounds, kayaks on Watson Lake and the Prescott Night Market, featuring local artisans and a variety of gourmet food trucks on-site. During their time in Prescott, attendees can also experience the frontier charm of such relics as The Palace Saloon–which served the likes of Doc Holiday and the Earp Brothers–on the charming historical hot-spot of Whiskey Row.
