This morning, Laura Jane Grace released her first single, “Dysphoria Hoodie,” off of her imminent studio album. This single marks her first release since her 2021 EP At War With Silverfish. The news of this track comes with the announcement of a string of performances for Grace this fall and winter.

“This is a song about gender dysphoria and your favorite hooded sweatshirt,” the Emmy-nominated musician said about the song. “Any trans person out there knows what a dysphoria hoodie is—it’s the hoodie you wear when feeling low and dysphoric, and you don’t want the world reading your gender. Hide your body shape, hide your head, disappear as much as you can. Wrap yourself up in it like a blanket anywhere you go. Make your flesh become cotton. Instant protection from the outside world.”

Grace went on to describe the song as an ode to her own dysphoria hoodie, adding, “My dysphoria hoodie happens to be an Adidas hoodie, so yes, this is in fact really just a tribute song to my favorite Adidas hoodie.”

The punk rocker is slated to make an appearance at The FEST, an underground music festival, in Gainesville, Fla., on Oct. 29. The singer-songwriter will then perform on the Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise from Nov. 8-13 before performing headline sets throughout the midwest—in Missouri, Kansas and Colorado—welcoming support from singer-songwriter Mya Byrne. Grace will kick off the New Year with a continuation of shows throughout the Midwest in Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin in early January. Tickets will be on sale to the general public this Friday, Oct. 6. Learn more and buy tickets here
