On Saturday, September 30, Trey Anastasio Band performed their first concert since the tragic passing of saxophonist James Casey, who had been a part of the band’s lineup since 2012. During the show, which took place during Sound on Sound in Bridgeport, Conn., the group’s frontman, Anastasio, commented on the loss, bringing the significance of Casey’s untimely passing to the forefront.
The whole set featured a special guest, Jo Lampert, who supported Phish during their 2016 “Ziggy Stardust” performance and later joined Anastasio for two of the Beacon Jams. Before delivering the aforementioned comments, Anastasio and his band started the night with a rendition of “Set Your Soul Free,” the high-powered run-through received jammed-out moments in addition to vocal contributions from the brass section.
As a follow-up, the ensemble moved into “A Wave of Hope” before picking up the Phish original, “The Moma Dance.” Switching back to the Anastasio archive, the group went with “Alive Again,” followed by another Phish tune, “Everything’s Alright.” Following the completion of the previously played tune, Anastasio acknowledged the recent passing of James Casey, who succumbed to a prolonged battle with colon cancer in late August. In turn, TAB added “Push On Til’ the Day,” followed by a trio of Phish fan favorites, including “Sand,” “A Life Beyond the Dream,” and the final song of the band’s festival frame, “First Tube.” Scroll down to view the band’s official setlist.
