Denver’s renowned funk and soul ensemble The Motet have shared a new song, “Natural Light,” their first release with latest member Sarah Clarke, who officially joined in July. On the track, Clarke exemplifies her role as a songstress, adding smooth vocals to the groove-laden single.
“‘Natural Light’ is an anthem to get you through the dark months, something that pumps you full of nostalgic joy. Summertime parties, sitting on the lawn with the sprinkler going, listening to neighbors laugh and play music, floating on the river with a cooler of ice-cold bevies behind you… all the things that make summer great, the things we start dreaming of in December,” remarked Clarke via The Motet’s official Instagram account.
“Summer is almost over, and for those of us who struggle with the winter months, this song is a bop to remind you that the sun will be back,” she concludes, boasting the funk-dominate song, which shines with the natural radiance of long forgotten dog days.
Prior to joining The Motet, Clarke established herself with captivating performances and remarkable songwriting abilities. She has toured across North America and fronted bands like Dirty Revival and the soulful psych-rock group Con Brio. Recently, audiences may have experienced her powerful vocals during her performances at Red Rocks and while singing with Portugal. The Man.
Clarke has also made her mark in the local Portland, Ore., music scene, collaborating with funk unit Outer Orbit, which boasts members from acclaimed bands like Ghost Note, Allen Stone, Gino Vannelli, and others. Read more about Clarke here.
