The Levitate Music and Arts Festival in Marshfield, Massachusetts wrapped up its 10th edition yesterday with an eclectic cavalcade of high-watt performances, culminating with another remarkable appearance by festival headliner, Brandi Carlile. The nine-time Grammy Award-winner closed Sunday night, and the third day of the annual event, opening her two hours onstage with a string quartet, and Carlile offering an impassioned rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” to a full-fledged rockshow that married Queen’s “We Are the Champions” to Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die.” The standout fest capper from Carlile followed a day of several memorable sets, including a second chance to witness the guitar driven soul of Celisse, as well as three undercard appearances- by Ziggy Marley, Shakey Graves, and Rebelution- that justifiably could have been headline sets.

On the Stoke stage, Marley’s hour-plus of sunny daze reggae ranged from newer cuts from the superstar to a few notable tributes to his legendary father; a medley of “Justice/Get Up Stand Up/War,” and a late-set take of “Is This Love.” Graves followed with a nod to his solo days as the futuristic bluesman on “Roll the Bones,” then welcomed his band for a mood-enhancing trip through several cuts from his acclaimed 2018 LP, Can’t Wake Up. While over at the Style stage, Celisse reprised Saturday’s impressive showing with an equally entertaining set, and Larkin Poe delighted with lush, guitar-driven Southern rock and country, while Rebelution’s energetic, late-afternoon run was among the most-attended and well-received of the weekend. In between, and certainly not to be forgotten, was a brilliant dose of Blues in an appearance by guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram on the Soul stage, rounding out perhaps the most diverse day of this year’s festival.
