Katie Jacoby, the violinist and singer-songwriter, perhaps best known for touring alongside The Who, has shared her cover of T. Rex’s classic “Cosmic Dancer.” The stunning reinterpretation has been released today, along with an official music video that positions the artist and her collaborators in a studio setting and highlights each of their refined instrumental skills.

On the track, Jacoby is joined by an all-star cast of musicians, including her husband and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist, Scott Metzger, as well as fellow collaborators who also make a mark on the cover, such as Dave Dreiwitz (JRAD, Ween) and Josh Dion (Paris Monster). Adding to the expressive nature of the instrumentals is a string quartet, which supports Jacoby on lead violin.

“I’ve always been a fan of Marc Bolan and T. Rex, and I think ‘Cosmic Dancer’ is one of the most beautiful songs ever. Tony Visconti’s gorgeous string arrangement is a big part of that, and I love how the lyrics straddle both the playful and the profound,” offered Jacoby via an official press release. “In my rendition, I wanted to capture the original analog warmth of the track while also highlighting the strings.”

Jacoby’s latest release lands ahead of her summer tour schedule alongside The Who–which picks up tomorrow at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain, before continuing into Italy, Germany and France. After wrapping the aforementioned appearances, the artist will accompany the band on a series of already-announced U.K. dates, starting on July 6. Learn more here.
