Pop singer-songwriter Ilsey and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon have released a heartfelt cover of Neil Young’s beloved track “Heart of Gold.” Produced, mixed, and engineered by BJ Burton, a prominent collaborator of Bon Iver, the new rendition brings a fresh perspective to the timeless classic.

In a press statement, Ilsey expressed her personal connection to the song, stating, “This song has always resonated with me on a profound level. Its poignant melody and evocative lyrics tap into the depths of our emotions. The imagery of a miner searching for something precious, whether it be love, connection, or truth, captures the challenging yet rewarding journey we all experience. When I met up with Justin and BJ, I couldn’t shake the idea and the song. It felt right to reimagine it in a way that reflects our own musical style and does justice to its essence.”

Known for her songwriting prowess, Ilsey Juber, also known as Ilsey, has co-written numerous chart-topping hits, including Beyoncé’s “All Night,” Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus’ “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart,” Panic! at the Disco’s “High Hopes,” the 1975’s “Looking for Somebody (To Love)” and “Oh Caroline,” Drake’s “Jungle,” and many more. This collaboration marks her second musical endeavor with Vernon, following their previous work on Big Red Machine’s “Mimi.”

The remarkable synergy between Ilsey and Justin Vernon, coupled with the masterful production by BJ Burton, results in a captivating rendition of “Heart of Gold” that pays homage to Neil Young’s original while adding an experimental and contemporary touch.

Notably, Vernon’s past project, DeYarmond Edison, recently announced a box set titled Epoch yesterday. Read more about the box set here.
