Today, Willie Nelson announced his newest studio album, I Don’t Know A Thing About Love, which will release on March 3 via Legacy Recordings. The 10-track project is comprised of fresh interpretations of classic compositions written by iconic American songwriter Harlan Howard.
Howard was an early contemporary of Nelson who is known for famously defining a great country song as “three chords and the truth.” His career spanned six decades which resulted in many enduring standards for a vast array of artists. In 1961 he had 15 songs on the country charts earning him 10 BMI awards and eventually leading him to be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1973 and later into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1997.
Through his recording of I Don’t Know A Thing About Love, Nelson leans into his own experience of creating a musical legacy while paying respects to Howard, who died in Nashville in 2002 at the age of 74. In celebration of the album announcement, Nelson released the project’s first single, “Busted.” The upbeat song was written in 1962 and tells the tale of a poor farmer who is burdened with overdue bills, failure of his crop and other financial woes while somehow holding on to a feeling of hope for the future.
I Don’t Know A Thing About Love features cover art by Micah Nelson and was produced by Nelson’s longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon. Featured artists include Larry Paxton, Lonnie Wilson, Bobby Terry, James Mitchell, Mike Johnson, Mickey Raphael, Jim “Moose” Brown, Wyatt Beard and Melonie Cannon.
