A new clip from the upcoming documentary, The Butthole Surfers Movie, has dropped, in which Dean Ween talks about the Texas-bred outfit and praises their vast musical impact. Also included are talking points regarding Ween’s live music experiences and his favorite bands. Watch now.

In the teaser, which can be viewed below. Ween offers his perspective on the rock group, declaring that Butthole Surfers are “the most psychedelic band ever.” Then, the guitarist continues by backing his claim: “Some of the most psychedelic guitar licks ever recorded are like ‘Purple Haze,’ ‘American Woman’ is a great one, but… ‘Grave Yard’ is just the foulest, most psychedelic riff.”

After delivering video evidence of the previously mentioned guitar epic, Ween returns to the screen and trails off about Paul Leary’s masterful instrumentals before stating, “I’ve played music and dedicated my life to music… They are the greatest live band I ever saw.”

Ween goes on to note he’s had the opportunity to see upwards of 50 Prince concerts, mentioning Crazy Horse and P-Funk as favorites, before adding, “If you told me to name the ten greatest shows… Bootsy is on there, and then there are nine Butthole Surfer shows.”

The Butthole Surfers Movie intends to portray the Gibby Haynes-led band’s history: from their Texas roots and 1981 beginning to the delivery of eight studio albums and breakthroughs with captivating live shows. Moreover, the forthcoming documentary will examine the band’s influence on groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

In addition to Ween, the movie will boast appearances by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, The Jesus Lizard’s David Yow and Black Flag’s Henry Rollins. At this time, the folks behind the film are asking for donations to complete their project. To learn more, visit their website.
