Scott Metzger has delivered a new track, “The Dark Triad,” which was initially recorded during the studio sessions that led to the Brooklyn-area guitarist’s solo acoustic LP, Too Close to Reason, which dropped via Royal Potato Family on March 4.

Shared as a stand-alone single, “The Dark Triad” was inspired by Metzger’s interest in filmmaker Tim Burton’s unique claymation movies. The musician offered via a press release: “I love that eccentric, creepy, dreamy, emotional aesthetic and was hoping to capture some of that vibe here.”

Metzger continued, “ I think the arrangement unfolds in a cool, interesting way and really tells a story that feels spontaneous and musical. D. James Goodwin’s mix puts the tune in a specific sonic space, and Lorenzo Wolff’s engineering captured the sound of my old Martin acoustic beautifully.”

The release of “The Dark Triad” aligns with the start of the musician’s acoustic run with partner Katie Jacoby on violin and Simon Kafka on the second guitar. The trio will perform tonight at Blue Note Grill in Durham, N.C., before continuing on Saturday night with an appearance at Warren Hayne’s Christmas Jam, which will be livestreamed via Volume.
