On Oct. 1, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros took the stage at Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, Conn., for the second consecutive night after kicking off their current fall tour on Friday with a bust out of “Walkin’ Blues.” The ensemble took it one step further on Saturday with a double debut during the performance, with the first renditions of “Salt Lake City” and “Dark Hollow” for last night’s lineup.

Set one got underway with the Grateful Dead favorites “Shakedown Street” into” New Speedway Boogie.” The previous number bled into the night’s initial debut with “Salt Lake City,” a tune from Weir’s 1978 Heaven Help the Fool repertoire. The song was last played by the group’s namesake on July 10, 2014. The Bob McDill-written “Catfish John” came next, before a pairing of “El Paso” and “Mexicali Blues.” Then, the group worked in “He’s Gone” before ending the evening’s first music set with “Cassidy.”

After a break and a breath, they returned with their second debut, this time a take on Bill Browning and His Echo Vally Boys’ “Dark Hollow,” a fittingly-titled tune for the first night of October. A roll out of songs arrived next when the group presented their audience with “Two Djinn” into “Truckin’,” which flowed effortlessly into “Weather Report Suite” and finally “Let It Grow.” After the memorable jam, Weir and Wolf Bros went with a classic Grateful Dead pairing, “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider.”

Then, they followed up with The Beatles’ classic “Dear Prudence” before ending the set in traditional form, given the night of the week, with “One More Saturday Night.” For the night’s encore, they began with a sweet take on the Robert Hunter and Jerry Garica favorite “Ripple.” Then epically, the band reprised “Playing in the Band” from the night before to conclude their stop in New Haven, Conn.

Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros will return to the stage on Wednesday night at the Kennedy Center, where they will appear with The National Orchestra for their highly anticipated multi-night stand.
