Today, Doom Flamingo announced they’ll release their debut live album, In The Rain, on Oct. 7. The collection of live tracks comes from the synth-wave group’s eclectic and explosive shows over the summer, all of which, almost by chaotic serendipity, were affected by weather, especially rain.

The 11 tracks found on the collection include performances at some of the group’s favorite festivals and venues, including The Charleston Pour House, Peach Music Festival, Summer Camp Music Festival, 5 Points Music Sanctuary and Whitewater Center – and tap the elusive, ethereal energy that comes from an impending storm and the freeing levity and refreshment of a storm passed.

“The songs on this album are from shows that, in one way or another, were affected by rain,” shared Doom Flamingo’s keyboardist Ross Bogan shared about the album’s conception. “The impetus for the album was to share our favorite performances from such a magical run. We didn’t realize until after the fact that the rain played a huge factor in each.”

The project offers a sundry of songs from Doom Flamingo’s catalog, with early originals like “F-16” and “Runaway,” recent fan favorites like “Lux Noir,” and masterful covers made all their own, including “Mad World” by Tear For Frears, Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon,” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” which the band shared today in celebration of the announcement of the project along with a pro-shot video.

“Front to back, In The Rain, encompasses sexiness and darkness all the while making you dance and groove,” added bassist Ryan Stasik.

The project was mixed from 32 track masters by Coast Records’ Matt Zutell and masters Matt Garber of For the Record. The band took a great time and care with the help of the aforementioned Zutell and Garber to give a true and masterful taste of the power of a live Doom Flamingo show.

Doom Flamingo saxophonist Mike Quinn added, “Studio Doom Flamingo and live Doom Flamingo are two very different things even though they are born of the same heart and ambition. They manifest themselves in different creative ways.”
