On Friday night, Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif., hosted Damon Albarn’s virtual band, Gorillaz. The single-night affair, which took place on the outskirts of Los Angeles, featured a star-studded lineup of musical guests, including Beck, Tame Impala, ScHoolboy Q, Thundercat, Del the Funky Homosapien, De La Soul and more. 

The West Coast tour stop in the City of Angels brought several sit-ins beginning with ScHoolboy Q. The rapper fittingly stepped out on his collaborative number with Gorillaz, “Pac-Man.” The song was released in 2020 on Gorillaz’s seventh studio album, Song Machine: Season One: Strange Timez, and also served as a tour debut during the Friday night gig.

Next, Beck took the stage and lent support to “The Valley of the Pagans.” Later in the night, he returned to the stage for a second time for the “Possession Island” set ender, which doubled as the world premiere of the new collaborative number off the band’s forthcoming LP, Cracker Island. The latter’s title track was also performed during the night, with assistance from Thundercat, a featured artist on the tune. 

Later, additional guests stepped out, including the night’s opener, EarthGang, to help with “Opium,” followed by a run-through of “Désolé” with Fatoumata Diawara. Special moments continued to roll out throughout the evening, including when De La Soul assisted on “Feel Good Inc.“ 

The night’s encore kicked off with Tame Impala and Bootie Brown stepping out on “New Gold.” Then, the Australian indie rocker retreated from the stage, leaving the latter to add their signature on “Stylo.” For the final songs of the night, Del the Funky Homosapien aided on “Rock the House” and “Clint Eastwood” to cap the momentous evening.
